GOVERNMENT SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT

His Excellency, Honourable Henry Seriake Dickson, Governor of Bayelsa State and Visitor to the Niger Delta University, has approved the appointment of a substantive Vice Chancellor for the University.

He is Professor Samuel Gowon Edoumiekumo, who until his elevation was the Acting Vice Chancellor of the Institution.

The appointment of Prof. Edoumiekumo is sequel to the recommendation of the Governing Council of the institution, after a comprehensive process for the appointment of a Vice Chancellor.

The new Vice Chancellor holds two doctorate degrees in Economics from the prestigious University òf Nigeria, Nsukka and the University of Port Harcourt.

The erudite Professor has occupied several key positions in the NDU and rose through the ranks to become the Acting Vice Chancellor of the University in 2017, a position he effectively occupied until his appointment as the substantive Vice Chancellor.

The Governor is of the view that, a tested, competent and committed academic be in charge of the university, especially at this critical moment, when reforms are being introduced to transform the institution into a world class university.


The governor calls for support for the new Vice Chancellor and the governing council.

He also gave the assurance that the State Government will not relent in its avowed commitment to support NDU to make it one of the best universities as shown by the ongoing projects in the institution.

Government will support and invest massively in infrastructural development in the institution and ensure the completion of all ongoing projects in the university in record time.

The Governor expresses the hope that with the efforts of the management and the council of the institution, the NDU will be a centre òf learning and scholarship in the country.

The Governor also called on the host community to always bear in mind that, they are a host to one of the most prized investment of a Bayelsa State and Ijaw Nation and should play role making the environment conducive for learning. The Governor calls on the students to focus on their studies and not allow unscrupulous and unpatriotic elements who do not mean well for the society to mislead them.
