APC MEMBER LAUD GOVERNOR DICKSON'S DEVELOPMENTAL EFFORTS

APC MEMBER LAUD GOVERNOR DICKSON'S DEVELOPMENTAL EFFORTS

A member of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Bayelsa State, Senator Clever Ikisikpo on Saturday paid glowing tributes to Governor Seriake Dickson for his developmental efforts in the state especially in critical sectors like health, education and infrastructure, which has changed the landscape of the state.

Senator Ikisikpo, who disclosed this after paying a condolence visit to Governor Dickson over the demise of his mother, Mrs. Goldcoast Dickson, at his country home at Toru Orua in Sagbama Local Government Area, said the death of Governor Dickson's mother was shocking and a sad moment for the state.

Describing the governor as his friend since their time as members of the House Representatives,  he emphasised that cancer is the cause of a lot of deaths in Nigeria, stressing that the Cancer Centre to be established by Governor Dickson in honour of his mother, would help create awareness and reduction of cancer related deaths.

Also, Chairman of Central Zone of the Ijaw Youth Council worldwide, IYC,  Comrade Tare Porri said that it is important for people to go for regular medical medical checkup as well as cancer screening due to the hazardous materials they are exposed to through oil exploration.

Comrade Porri assured that the IYC would partner the governor by organising a sensitization campaign to all the communities in the state on cancer, infant and maternal mortality and other ailments, adding that the cancer foundation would help in addressing and detecting cancer early in patients.

Throwing her weight behind Governor Dickson, former Special Adviser on Talent Development and Gender Promotion, Mrs. Helen Bob urged people to live a healthy lifestyle as well as going for early diagnosis as prevention is better than cure.

Mrs Bob also avowed that she would join hands with others to mobilise the citizenry on cancer while calling on well meaning Nigerians and organisations to support the governor to drastically reduce cancer related deaths in the state.

For the immediate past Deputy Managing Director of the Sun Newspaper and friend to the Governor, Mr. Steve Nwosu, establishment of the cancer Centre is a humanitarian gesture and welcome development .

He further stressed that though there is no cure for cancer, there are treatments to help a sufferer live longer.
