POLICE CONFIRMED VICTIM OF BRASS CRISIS ESCAPED FROM SARS CELL IN YENAGOA.

POLICE CONFIRMED VICTIM OF BRASS CRISIS ESCAPED FROM SARS CELL IN YENAGOA.

Security source in Bayelsa, have confirmed that late Kelly Ikurusi, one of the victims in the violence that broke out in Brass Local Government Area of Bayelsa State on August 20 was in the wanted list of the state police command, the Nation reports.

The source said Kelly Ikurusi, who died in the bloody fracas, was among the detainees who broke the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) cell in Yenagoa, the state capital, last year November 7.
According to the police, 10 suspected robbers and cultists escaped from SARS custody on the fateful day.

The then Police Commissioner Asuquo Amba said three of the suspects were immediately rearrested.
But nothing was heard about other escapees until recently when suspected thugs of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the All Progressives Congress (APC) clashed in Brass.

Among the three persons killed in the Brass violence, were Ikurusi and Peter George; Oputongha Pogo, Moses Blacky and Toinpre Sorbo were injured.
The Caretaker Committee Chairman of Brass Local Government Area, Victor Isaiah, alleged that a member of the House of Assembly, Isreal Sunny-Goli allegedly armed the thugs to kill him.

He said the thugs died in the violence which occurred when members of the Brass Vigilance group foiled their attempts to kill him.

Sunny-Goli denied the allegation, saying the clash was part of a desperate script to wrest the control of Brass Constituency from the APC ahead of next year’s general elections.

“I did not win my mandate through the barrel of the gun. I won without killing a soul. It is on record that APC won in Brass without violence,” he said.
The Bayelsa State government said it had begun investigation into the violence which left three youths dead and many others injured in the local government.

The government pledged to arrest and prosecute the hoodlums, including high-profile politicians fingered in the bloody clash.

Speaking at the Government House in Yenagoa, Deputy Governor John Jonah said the nine-hour curfew (9 p.m to 6 a.m) imposed in the area remained in force.

Jonah said preliminary investigation showed that the mayhem was sponsored by some highly-placed individuals for political purposes.

He said the state government directed the law enforcement agencies to ensure a thorough investigation into the activities of the hoodlums and ensure the prosecution of persons indicted, irrespective of their status.

Jonah urged the people to remain law-abiding, insisting that the government would take necessary lawful measures to maintain peace, law and order.

APC Publicity Secretary Doifie Buokoribo accused the state government of cover-up in the killing of its two members on Brass Island
Buokoribo described as wicked and criminal the attempt by the government to exonerate Isaiah from the killings.

He accused Jonah of bias and not being bold enough to caution the caretaker chairman.

Face your problems, leave our Dep. GOV. alone --- PDP chieftain tells Bayelsa APC

Face your problems, leave our Dep. GOV. alone --- PDP chieftain tells Bayelsa APC

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Bayelsa has asked the state chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to be mindful of some of its utterances, especially against the person of the Deputy Governor, Rear Admiral Gboribiogha John Jonah (rtd).

Deputy Publicity Secretary of the party, Mr. Toby Ebikedimie in a statement on Tuesday said the APC's claim that the Deputy Governor was bias in handling the recent crisis in Brass Local Government Area is not only disrespectful but an attempt to impugn on the integrity of the Bayelsa number two man.

Ebikedimie said the APC in its usual style of picking on members of the Restoration Government for sadistic reasons have chosen the Deputy Governor this time, but warned the party not to go beyond this point.

He stated that Jonah, is known for his uprigthness which he has displayed over the years, making him one of the finest military officers that the country has ever produced, adding that on no account will he throw away his good and admirable virtues.

The PDP deputy spokesman therefore warned the APC to stop its smear campaign against the Deputy Governor and the Restoration Government but look  for a solution to the many crisis bedevilling it.

According to him, the Deputy Governor has never used his contacts or connections as a retired military officer to influence men of the Nigerian Navy to
intimidate or harass anyone in Twon-Brass, as msichieveiously alleged by the APC.

The PDP stalwart added that as a statesman, the Deputy Governor is coordinating efforts aimed at bringing lasting peace to Brass and ensuring that such disturbance does not occur there or elsewhere in the state.

The statement read in parts: " We have observed with dismay the sudden attack on the Deputy Governor of the state by members of the APC, especially its spokesman, Doifie Ola because of his role in bringing peace to Twon Brass.

"We view the APC's recalcitrant attitude as a misnomer but we are not surprised because of its antecedent of being a party without the right values and democratic ethos.

"As a party, we will like to warn the APC to stop further attack on our Deputy Governor. We will not tolerate it again! Nobody in the Bayelsa APC can boast of his achievement, career wise, especially in the military, where he served meritoriously until he bowed out".

"The Deputy Governor has in the past committed himself to peace initiatives, the same thing he is doing for Brass. If the APC feels otherwise then it is left for them to deal with rather than allow their  symptomatic amnesia to affect their conduct".

DAD YOU ARE GONE, BUT NEVER FORGOTTEN,

DAD YOU ARE GONE, BUT NEVER FORGOTTEN,

It has been more than 5 years since I last saw you, spoke to you, touched your hand, or  just sat on your presence. I miss you! I really, really miss you.

I miss the sound of your voice, the footsteps with those shiny black shoes, how you would call me as if we are age mates . I miss your voice! I really wish we could talk right now. I miss ...your words of wisdom, I miss your sense of humor, I think you would like my sense of humor too, though I tend to be crazier than you were. I miss your sound of your laughter.

Every year on Father's Day, I have to admit (and this may sound silly and pretty), but I am a little envious of all the people who get to spoil their dads on Father's Day on social media , I already have your gift (obviously it will be a polish to shine your shoes), have the day planned and Mom be busy ironing your Brand Woods to keep it a surprise for you. But the reality is stone cold, you're not here anymore and I don't get to do anything for you. Not just on Father's Day, but on your birthday and every other days of the year.

Not a day goes by when I don’t imagine what life would be like had you not died. Every situation that I find myself in be it a family function, my matric year,  I imagine a scenario where you’re present and sharing in the happy moments.

You’ve left people with a lot of good memories of you. They always mention how you made them laugh, always listened, how you always helped whoever you could with whatever you could. It gives me a feeling of warmth inside to hear these things about you and inspires me to be the kind of son you’d be proud of.

Thank you, daddy. Thank you for your love. Thank you for the memories. Thank you for being a good, hard working human being who encouraged me to be the best person I can be and to do the best I can in everything I wish to achieve. So thank you for that.but my only hope is that I can be as good person as you, so that I can get up to heaven, and see you again someday.

Dad, I know you are up in heaven and I love you and miss you very much and still think about you to this day. I only hope you are very proud of your children Ebimobowei (Daniel ), Kuroakeighe (Emmanuel ), Golden, Boluere your only Daughter,  and Tarila your second child who is currently serving his Fathers land( NYSC) at Imo state . I promised that we are going to doing our best in life to keep your memory alive.

Mostly, thank you for being my father. I love you.

BRASS CRISIS :EX-AGITATOR HAS GIVEN THE BAYELSA STATE APC FIVE WORKING DAYS ULTIMATUM TO TO REPUDIATE HIM FROM THE CRISIS.

By Elaye Igbian-Warifagha Yagila (The Tarakiri Boy)

The Chairman, Bayelsa state Urban and Waterways Security Task Force, Africanus Ukparasia, popularly called Gen. Africa, has advised the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Bayelsa state to desist from linking him to the recent crisis in Twon Brass, Brass Local Government of Bayelsa state.

The ex-militant leader who was taken aback, questioned the motive behind the inclusion of his name in the crisis they precipitated to make political gains in the area.

In a statement Gen. Africa signed o Saturday he noted that he is not from Brass Local Government Area and has nothing to do with the politics in Brass.

It would be recalled that the Bayelsa Chapter of the APC through its Spokesman, Mr. Doifie Buokoribo, noted that hired mercenaries from Odioma and Gen. Africa’s boys were used by the Caretaker Chairman of Brass Local Government Council, Hon Victor Isaiah to kill two APC supporters in the state and injured many others.

He warned that there would be consequences for any attempt to drag his name into the crisis in the Brass area of Bayelsa state. He wondered why any sane human being who is not under the influence of alcohol or some narcotics would want to tarnish his image.

He has therefore given a five working days’ ultimatum to Mr. Doifie Buokoribo to retract his statement, failing which he should be ready to face the consequences of maligning him.

He reminded Mr. Buokoribo of the laws of libel and slander which are still in effect in Nigeria.

POLICE INVITE FANI-KAYODE OVER CRIMINAL PUBLICATION

POLICE INVITE FANI-KAYODE OVER CRIMINAL PUBLICATION

By Abdulfatai Ayobami Ibrahim and Eniola Akinkuotu

The Nigeria Police Force has invited a former Minister of Aviation, Chief Femi Fani-Kayode, for alleged conspiracy, criminal and inciting publication.
In a letter dated August 20, 2018 with Ref. No CR/3000/IGP.SEC/MU/T.G/ABJ Vol.54/226, the police asked the former minister to appear before SP Usman Garba latest by August 28, 2018.

In the letter titled, ‘Conspiracy, criminal defamation, inciting publication, injurious falsehood and conduct likely to cause breach of peace’, the police noted that the invitation was based purely on a fact-finding mission.

The letter, which was signed by Commissioner of Police in charge of the IG Monitoring Unit, Force Headquarters, Habu Sani read, “This office is investigating the above mentioned case reported to the Inspector-General of Police in which your name featured. “In view of the above, you are requested to interview the undersigned through SP Usman Garba on 28/08/2018 by 10.00hrs to shed light on the allegations raised.

“You are to, however, note that the invitation is purely for fact findings and your cooperation in this regard is highly solicited. Please.”

Speaking on his invitation, however, Fani-Kayode said, “I am not in the least bit intimidated and I cannot be silenced. They would have to kill me first. I received the letter today without any details of the allegations or who the complainant is.

“I will consult with my lawyers and take it from there. One thing is clear though: this is yet another attack on democracy and freedom of speech. No matter what they do, in the end we shall prevail because God is with us.”

Although it was not expressly stated why the former minister was invited, sources told our correspondent that it may not be unconnected to a recent article he wrote as well as an interview he granted the Africa Independent Television.

In the said programme on AIT, Fani-Kayode rejected the reports from the Presidency and the All Progressives Congress that it was Senate President Bukola Saraki that organised the invasion of the National Assembly.

The former minister alleged that it was the acting President at the time, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, that ordered the Department of State Services to block the entrance of the National Assembly. The police have in recent times invited several persons who have written articles or issued reports that are deemed unfavourable or embarrassing to the government.

The senator representing Bauchi-Central Senatorial District, Isah Misau, was arraigned for allegedly making injurious statements against the IG, Mr. Ibrahim Idris, while a spokesman for a former military Head of State, Kassim Afegbua, was invited for issuing a statement critical of the President.

SARS OVERHAUL: OPERATIVES TO WEAR UNIFORM, RESTRICTED TO ROBBERY, KIDNAP CASES.

SARS OVERHAUL: OPERATIVES TO WEAR UNIFORM, RESTRICTED TO ROBBERY, KIDNAP CASES.

The Inspector General of Police, Mr Ibrahim Idris, has ordered operatives of the Federal Special Anti-Robbery Squad (FSARS) to wear police uniforms with full identification.

A statement by the Force Public Relations Officer, Mr Jimoh Moshood, on Friday said the personnel are to comply with the directive pending the launch of a new uniform for the squad.

The police boss gave the directive at a stakeholders’ meeting in Abuja while highlighting the progress made by the police in the coverhaul of the squad, in line with a presidential directive.
Mr Idris, who was represented by the Deputy Inspector General of Police (Operations), Mr Habila Joshak, stressed that the overhaul of SARS was beyond rhetoric and that real reform was taking place.

He disclosed that among other things, Federal SARS operatives would no longer attend to civil and commercial matters again, but strictly to armed robbery and kidnap cases only.

In his remarks, the newly appointed Commissioner of Police Federal SARS, Mr Habiru Gwandu, informed the gathering of the creation of a Human Rights Desk in every state of the Federation.

He said the establishment was to note and address cases of infractions against members of the public by FSARS personnel anywhere in the country, in collaboration with other human rights organisations.

Mr Gwandu revealed that the police have involved the services of psychologists and counsellors in the ongoing screening of FSARS operatives.

The Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the IGP’s X-Squad, Mr Amaechi Elumelu, also briefed the gathering on the screening and mobilisation of FSARS operatives.

He said it would not be business as usual any longer, as those intending to join the squad would go through rigorous orientation, human rights training, and other screening processes that would include evaluating their previous records on human rights.

Mr Elumelu announced the setting up of the Custody Records Management System which he said would soon be unveiled by the IGP.

He said the system would contain the records of arrests, detentions and welfare details of suspects, adding that it would discourage arbitrary arrest of people and ensure that suspects were charged to court within 24 hours according to the law.
Reacting to the development, a social media activist, Mr Segun Awosanya, who spearheaded the #ENDSARS Campaign, thanked the President for ordering the overhaul of SARS.

He described the government as a listening one and called for trust between Nigerians and the police.
“If it is well with the police, it is well with the nation,” said Awosanya who promised to support the Force in the reform process.

“Every successful man needs a powerful praying wife or a powerful praying wife. No wonder, you were successful from your days in the the House of Representatives to  the governorship, and then the second term.

“We are here to ask you to look up to God for consolation, because the  vacuum to fill is a very difficult one.

“Mama was a quiet unassuming, spirit-filled woman. She was a good woman. We would be here with you to partake in the final burial rites; we will give you the necessary support And from time to time, we will be with you.”

Speaking also, Governor Dickson said that his mother was a card carrying member of the PDP until her death.

He restated the decision of the Dickson family to establish  a cancer awareness centre in honour of the memory of the late Mrs. Gold Coast Dickson with the objective of preventing cancer related deaths in the society.
