BUHARI WILL BE IMPEACHED SOON – HON JAGABA
By Wale Oduns
Hon Adams Jagaba, a member of the House of Representatives representing Kachia/Kagarko Federal Constituency has disclosed that majority of Nigerian lawmakers are ready to begin impeachment process against President Muhammadu Buhari.
He stated that Buhari will be removed if he failed to quickly address the 12-point resolutions passed against him.
Jagaba, in an interview with the BBC Hausa radio service on Wednesday, explained that the lawmakers had to take this bold step in order to salvage the already sinking democracy in the country.
“We will willingly do so in the interest of democracy and the country as a whole. We will also meet with the United Nations, European Union and African Parliament in order to help us restore democracy which is currently suffering a setback in the country.
“Therefore, we will not hesitate to impeach him because he is not God,” he said.
Jagaba who recently officially decamped from the All Progressives Congress, APC, to the opposition party, Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, said Mr Buhari’s anti-corruption crusade, which has made the president famous in the international community, is full of talks without action.
“What has he done in that regard? How many has he prosecuted apart from indiscriminate prosecution of corrupt politicians?,” he queried.
Jagaba alleged that the President has surrounded himself with corrupt people who are accused of one corruption charges or another.
“They are busy diverting public funds into their personal coffers. If he is serious in the fight against corruption, he should be all out to prosecute anybody regardless of political affiliations,” he advised.
Asked if he has any evidence to prove his stance, Mr Jagaba answered in the affirmative, saying that billions of Naira has been diverted by the National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA and the President is yet to do anything about it.
He added: “When a former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Babachir Lawal was accused by the Senate of diversion of public funds what did the president do?
“He issued out a letter exonerating him (Babachir) of these allegations. It took the President a long time before he decided to relieve him of his position.
Responding to allegations that the legislators decided to go against the president because he (Buhari) blocked their financial recklessness which pervaded the previous administration, the lawmaker said no, “Nigeria, democracy is what we are fighting for.
“We will oppose anybody that wants to stifle democracy or the wellbeing of the masses. People are hungry and nobody is doing anything about it.”
