A PASSIONATE APPEAL TO OUR GREAT YOUTHS IN CENTRAL ZONE, BAYELSA STATE OVER THE INTER-CULT RIVALRY THAT HAS CLAIMED LIVES OF OUR GREAT YOUTHS

A PASSIONATE APPEAL TO OUR GREAT YOUTHS IN CENTRAL ZONE, BAYELSA STATE OVER THE INTER-CULT RIVALRY THAT HAS CLAIMED LIVES OF OUR GREAT YOUTHS

As the President of Ijaw Youth Council (IYC) Worldwide which is the umbrella body that shield Ijaw Youths all over the world, I feel very saddened with the unpalatable news of killings that is currently ongoing in Bayelsa State in the name of cult war.

My position as the Number One Ijaw Youth all over the world, it has bestowed and saddled upon me the burden and position of elder brother to all our great Youths and I need to resound, restate and reechoe the fact that no Ijaw Youth is suppose to die avoidable death especially resulting from senseless cult rivalry.

In our present very competitive society, Youths are suppose to engage in meaningful ventures that will make us successful and prominent in society where we shall be able to fend for our families, loved ones and other dependants and also contribute our quota to the growth and development of society and not indulgence in unfashionable and destructive ventures.

With the present economic and political realities, Youths of other tribes and ethnic groups have moved on with life. They are working round the clock to add meanings and positive values to society and I do not expect anything less from our great Youths. But while appealing to our Youths for calm, I also urge the various security agencies to rise up to the current security challenges that are prevalent in the Niger Delta and the Ijaw Nation in particular in order to curb these menaces, ills and social vices and also ensure that culprits and their sponsors are brought to book.

I want to make it abundantly clear that no Youth is useless. As a matter of fact every Youth have a life to live, same way those Youths some see or term as useless or failures can also rise to any level in society if they discover their potentials and talents and also strive for success in society.

Finally, may i also use this medium to appeal to our great leader and symbol of our unity and Ijawness His Excellency, Hon. Henry Seriake Dickson the Executive Governor of Bayelsa State, the home and Jerusalem of the Ijaw Nation and all our traditional, religious and political leaders to do everything within their powers to ensure peace and unity of our people. The Ijaw Nation has gone through unpleasant situations including injustice, unfair treatment, marginalization, deprivation, oppression, repression and suppression in the political evolution of the Nigerian State but what has kept us strong is our unity like the Ijaws who have never been conquered. We are in a critical position now as we countdown to the 2019 General Elections which is a very critical time that is laced with a lot of uncertainties and we cannot afford to be disunited.

May Almighty God touch our hearts to be instruments of peace.

BARR. PEREOTUBO, OWEILAEMI ROLAND
President
Ijaw Youth Council (IYC) Worldwide
