A head of the 2019 polls, the third-term ambition of Hon. Henry Daniel Offungo representing Southern -Ijaw Federal Constituency at the House of Representatives has sharply divided the people of the area.the lawmaker’s ambition is generating ripples, especially within the fold of the political Classin the area.
A source closed to the lawmaker revealed that, he had at a recent function in his constituency declared his intention to return to the green chambers come 2019.
However, some of his constituents are already miffed over his ambition, which they considered to be antithetical the patient of the electorates and opinions leaders in the constituency.
This was disclosed in statement made available to our correspondence by Hon Koripamo Ogili the after a consultative meeting with youths in Oporoma on Tuesday 4 September, 2018.
Ogili stressed that Henry Daniel Offungo leadership has failed the Southern-Ijaw Federal Constituencies , therefore, must be replaced by competent person and development oriented leader.
Present at the meeting were, Leadership of Southern-Ijaw Constituency 4 Youths Consultative Forum,Hon Kivin and the Leadership of SiGrassrootlga Movement for Good Governance.
The statement further said; since Henry Daniel Offungo was sworn into office in 2007, the economy, and political fortunes of the constituency have continued to deteriorate and has never attracted any federal projects to the constituency. adding that, the electorates in Southern-Ijaw Federal Constituents voted Henry to the hallowed champer with the hope that, he has the potential to make decisive differences in the economy, and political fortunes of the constituencies.
"The hopes that Henry who have exercised power since 2007 will reverse the abuse and neglect of the constituents which the previous decade have been betrayed. Weak governance, gross insensitivity and unacceptable levels of incompetences have been compounded by his negligence ; Therefore he no business going back to the National Assembly.
We need a vibrant federal lawmaker that will attract federal presence to our area as well as touch the lives of the people of his constituency, and not bench warmers in the National Assembly”, the statement read.
Findings by our correspondent showed that those interested in the race included: Alaye Tari Theophilous , Hon Preye Oseke , Hon Kuroakeighe Dorgu present commissioner for Land and Survey , Hon Friday Konbowei Benson speaker Bayelsa state house of Assembly , Hon Tiwei Orunimiegha among others.
Asadu has remained in the green chambers since 2007 till date and is still doing everything to ensure that he retains the seat for the fourth tenure, even though he has nothing to show for the twelve years he has represented us.
The feeling of marginalization has ensured the emergence of many pressure groups from the constituency who are all pushing for their own to be elected as House of Representative member come 2019.
